Guest Information

Welcome to Baltusrol

If you are the guest of a member, we are delighted to welcome you to Baltusrol and hope you enjoy your visit. The Club works hard to preserve its rich traditions; in order to make your visit as pleasurable as possible, please note a few important guidelines for your visit to Baltusrol.

Upon arrival, you are requested to check in at the Play Deck located by the putting green. Please identify yourself and advise a member of our Play Deck staff who your member host is for the day. We will assist you with your golf clubs and direct you to the locker room.
Baltusrol is a traditional private golf club committed to preserving tasteful standards of behavior and appearance for members and guests. Members and guests wearing clothing that does not conform to our traditional Club standards may be asked to adjust their attire.

Examples of acceptable attire include but are not limited to:
  • Jackets for men after 6:00 pm
  • No overly revealing attire at any time
  • No denim or jeans, regardless of color
When in doubt, members and guests should err on the side of more formal attire over more casual, in keeping with Baltusrol’s commitment to a tasteful environment for all.

Men’s Dress Code

Slacks or shorts and collared shirts are the required dress on Club grounds. Golf shirts must be tucked in at all times. Inappropriate attire includes jeans, denim, cargo pants, sandals, and flip flops. Hats, caps, and visors are not permitted in the Clubhouse.
Shorts are permitted on the main floor of the Clubhouse until 6:00 pm, except in the Main Dining Room. After 6:00 pm, shorts are not permitted on the main floor except in the Grill Room. Shorts should be tailored for golf and only short ankle length socks may be worn with shorts. After 6:00 pm, jackets are required on the main floor, except in the Grill Room. The Main Dining Room requires jackets for breakfast, and jacket and tie for lunch and dinner. Casual dining is available in the Grill Room, Men's Locker Room Bar, and Greenside Patio.

Women's Dress Code

Golf skirts/dresses, shorts or slacks, and collared shirts are the required dress on Club grounds. Inappropriate attire includes jeans (including white), denim, leggings, yoga pants, cargo pants, and flip flops (i.e., rubber, beach, or athletic). Hats, caps, and visors are not permitted in the Clubhouse.

Shorts are permitted on the main floor of the Clubhouse until 6:00 pm, except in the Main Dining Room. After 6:00 pm, golf attire/shorts are not permitted on the main floor except in the Grill Room.

Shorts/skirts should be tailored for golf and be a conservative/traditional length. No short-shorts or short-skirts. After 6:00 pm, ladies' conservative cocktail attire is required on the main floor, except in the Grill Room. The Main Dining Room requires ladies to wear tasteful/conservative non-golf attire for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Casual dining is available in the Grill Room, Mixed Patio, and Greenside Patio.
Baltusrol Golf Club is a traditional private club, and we want to encourage social interaction among our members.

Mobile phones must be kept on silent mode at all times on property and members and guests should use the cell phone rooms when using electronic devices to check for time sensitive texts, emails, and voice communications.

Quick responses to texts and emails will be permitted in the locker rooms, the Men’s Locker Room Bar, the Mixed Patio, and restrooms. Voice communications are only permitted in the cell phone room in the Men’s Locker Room, the sitting area on the first floor of the Women’s Locker Room, or inside your vehicle. Earbuds are prohibited in the Clubhouse and on the practice ranges. Electronic devices are not permitted on the Greenside Patio or in the Grill Room.

Mobile phones may be used to take photographs in common areas on Club grounds that are for personal use only.
The Golf Committee has established a pace of play policy of 4 hours or less for a foursome. It is expected that all players will play "hit when ready" golf to maintain the pace guidelines. It is a group's responsibility to keep up with the group in front of them. Please choose the appropriate tees from which to play - matched to your skill level - in order to meet the pace of play guidelines. In addition, clocks are available on the courses for groups to check their pace.
One of Baltusrol's most important traditions is maintaining the golf courses to championship caliber conditions. Please replace divots, repair ball marks on the greens, rake bunkers, and knock the sand off your shoes when exiting a bunker. On days when practice at the Range is from the mats only, please do not go forward to hit off the grass; our TurfHound mats are equipped with special tee inserts for your driver.
Baltusrol has a tradition of members walking the golf courses, and we want to continue that tradition and encourage members to walk if they are able. We also have a tradition of using caddies, and all players are expected to use caddies unless they are exempt to use a cart.

The caddie experience is a long-standing tradition at Baltusrol. As independent contractors who work directly for the membership, it is their responsibility to meet your golf experience expectations.

Baltusrol Golf Club caddies vary in experience, skills, and monetary expectations. Members are encouraged to communicate their expectations to their caddie and the Play Deck staff prior to the start of each round. The monetary expectation for the caddie’s services should be determined by the member and caddie prior to the round based on the quality of service and performance. If you are unsure of a caddie’s qualifications or monetary expectations, please ask a member of the Play Deck staff for assistance.
Baltusrol has a no-tipping policy for all employees (excluding caddies, who are not Club employees).

Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the Clubhouse or any other building on Club grounds. Smoking in the immediate area of the Clubhouse is restricted to the designated smoking area on the landing between the Greenside Patio and the Golf Shop. Proper receptacles for discarding smoking materials are provided in the smoking area.
